Arguing that autogynephilia is a form of gender dysphoria misses the point that autogynephilia is not about gender at all. It is about sexuality.
Autogynephilia is a sexual orientation in which a man is sexually attracted to the image of himself as a woman. It is not about wanting to be a woman, or to live as a woman, or to have surgery to change one's appearance. It is about sexual arousal from the idea of oneself as a woman.
There is nothing wrong with autogynephilia. It is not a mental disorder. It does not need to be "treated." It is not something to be ashamed of.
Autogynephilia is a perfectly natural and healthy sexual orientation. It is no more "disordered" than being heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual.
Most people with autogynephilia are perfectly happy and well-adjusted. They lead normal, productive lives and are in loving relationships with their partners.
There is a small minority of people with autogynephilia who do experience significant distress or impairment in their lives as a result of their sexuality. For these individuals, gender transition may be a helpful treatment option.
Gender transition is not a cure for autogynephilia, and it is not right for everyone. But for some people, it can be a lifesaving treatment.
If you think you might be experiencing autogynephilia, or if you are struggling with your sexuality, please seek help from a qualified mental health professional.
